The central hub of trade in the Hanang District is the city of Katesh, where a wide variety of small business activities can be found. The city is growing quickly in population and has made some recent upgrades to transportation infrastructure. The central bus stand and the surrounding area now offer a more robust selection of shops for food, clothing, electronics, auto parts, media, and more. Merchants come from all around Tanzania and Kenya to buy agricultural goods for export and sometimes further processing. As time goes on, people of the district are working to control a higher share of the value being generated by locals in the area.
Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Constantine Kanyasu has instructed TFS to “Improve infrastructure at Mt. Hanang to woo more tourists”.
